EARTHQUAKE IN DELHI

Yesterday Earthquake in Northern India located on Indio-Nepal Border measuring 5.4 on reactor scale is once again remind us that Delhi and NCR area is in seismic Zone – 4. Previous to this on April 2, 2011 one earthquake has 4.9 has jolted the Kashmir Zinziyang Border Area and on 1St April 2011 earthquake of 5.2 is recorded in Hindukush area. Means 3 attacks in last four days. It is a indication of some big is happening beneath the earth. We should prepare ourselves for it. According to experts it shows the activeness in Indian plates.
It is all result of playing with nature and environment. Due to large scale Human activities against environment like deforestation, polluting of river and air. WE are constructing concrete jungle at the speed never before and killing environment like anything.
This action of us(Human Beings) will result in reaction from nature & environment which may cause large scale loss of life and property.
In addition we all knows that the Delhi region have high rise building which do not have any safety measurements while the construction of these buildings carried out. In normal routine also they do not follow safety codes and standards. The arrangements of government is also no-where in case of any disaster. Generally Indian government needs to call Army for relief work in case of natural calamities. Also our equipment to deal with disasters are not according to International standards. We needs world class equipment to save the life and remove debris.
All government agencies must review and prepare themselves for disasters in view of latest developments. Anything required for disaster management must be immediately arranged. Volunteers must be recruited for this purpose. It is very important to review and repair the safety and operating procedures of Nuclear Plants. The recent disaster of Fukushima Nuclear Plant of Japan is clearly known to everyone. All the Nuclear Plants must have extra backup plan to deal with disasters. Three tier safety and backup must be implemented in Nuclear Plants.

Also all the high rise buildings must be inspected. Any building which do not meets safety standards must be immediately forced to meet the guidelines and strict action must be taken in case of non-conformity. All buildings which have completed their life must be demolished.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT ALL MEASURES MUST BE CARRIED PRACTICALLY NOT ON PAPERS TO COMPLETE FORMALITY BY TAKING BRIBE MONEY.

Tragedy in Japan

The recent Earthquake and tsunami has totally damaged many cities of Japan and killed thousands of people. Due to this big earthquake and tsunami the Fukushima nuclear power plant safety measures has failed and radiation has spread in and around Fukushima Nuclear Plant.

This incident has clearly raised big question over energy from Nuclear Sources. In some news it is also mentioned that some data related to safety measures of reactors changed/compromised way back in 1985 so now to stop future recurrence of this type of nuclear tragedy secrecy over nuclear reactors must be reduced and international audit of nuclear plants all over the world must be carried out in view of Japan Tragedy.

Moreover whole world must come forward to help the Japan at this crisis movement. The safety of human beings is the top most priority of any initiative.

It is a reminder from nature to Humans that we should make ourself environment friendly otherwise unnecessary exploitation of nature will yield bad result. All the human creations are small in front of any natural disaster.

I pray to God to help and give courage to the peoples of Japan during this tragedy.

Disaster Management

Almost every Indian city is vulnerable to man made and natural disasters. Some of the man made disasters are bomb blast, terrorist attack / naxalite attacks while natural calamities like floods  in Bihar, Bengal and Mumbai in recent years and earthquakes in Kashmir, Gujarat. Storms / Tsunami in various coastal regions have left big impact on the mind & strength of nation. Although the whole nation stands united during the hour of crisis but the lack of disaster management, shortage of equipments & infrastructure and non-co-ordination between various government agencies because of lazy attitude of government workers led to the loss of life and assets on very large scale. Some of the disasters left never ending marks on social life. Some important points which needs to be analyzed are as follows :

  • In case of earthquake at Gujarat I read and listen that debris removing equipments (which are human friendly and modern) of International Community are very much better in comparison to Indian equipments.

  • In case of Tsunami USA has better warning systems with them.

  • After WTC attacks USA made its security system very strong and saved / failed further terrorist attacks.

Many more disasters could have been stopped if government is alerted. Actually we don't have proper policies and system which are required during crisis hour. Generally Army is called in case of natural calamities which should be the last option but it seems that it is the only option with authorities.
Almost all of our metro cities has high rise buildings (group housings/corporate offices/malls)  and mostly all of them constructed after approvals of various government agencies but in case of any mis-happenings like (fire/bomb blast/ earthquake/flood/etc.) in these buildings do the district administration have complete infrastructure/equipment to deal with this problem. Like case of Fire at IOC in Jaipur all safety measures failed and even central government is not successful to stop fire. Personally I knows that once the approval from concerned authority is taken most of the safety measures dies due to lack of maintenance. A regular monitoring/inspection system of safety measures should be in place so that we can reduce the chances of any disaster. It must be made sure that inspection is not only a formality which gets completed because of corruption means enforcement of law should goes in strict manner.

Earthquake in Delhi

Global earthquake epicenters, 1963 1998

Image via Wikipedia

The National Capital Delhi has large number of high rise buildings and due to loopholes/corruption in system many of them are not safe in case of natural disaster like earthquake. Delhi comes in Zone-IV on parameter of Earthquake measurement. no safeguards are installed, nor the life of these buildings are tested. What precautions are being taken is not known. Regular inspection must be their to save the loss of life and other assets. The safety equipment / life saving equipment required in case of earthquake must be available and ready 24 x 7. Generally in India equipment required in case of earthquakes are not at par with International Standards. So many countries are ahead of us so government must arrange world class equipment to remove debris and save lives.

It should be mandatory for all high rise buildings (government/private/others) for having safeguard and regular approvals & inspection by appropriate authorities for occupation.

The building who have completed their life must be demolished.

A team of volunteers must be created so that in case of earthquakes relief work can be started on immediate basis.
